Settings, terminals and printers
Go to Settings. The page has three tabs:
| Tab | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Restaurant | How orders are identified, the M-Pesa Till Number, and when stock leaves the books |
| Terminals | The shared devices staff unlock with their PIN |
| Printers | Kitchen and bar ticket printers |
Owners, admins and managers see all three tabs. You only see the tabs your rights allow: Restaurant needs the right to manage branch settings, and Terminals and Printers need the right to manage terminals.
Restaurant operations
Section titled “Restaurant operations”Go to Settings → Restaurant.
Branch service mode
Section titled “Branch service mode”Branch service mode decides how waiters identify an order:
| Mode | What it means |
|---|---|
| Fixed floor | Every order belongs to a table on your floor plan. |
| Named tabs | Every order needs a free-text name instead of a table, for example a guest’s name. |
| Mixed tables and tabs | Waiters can use a fixed table or a named tab. |
A branch stays on Fixed floor until you change it.
M-Pesa Till Number
Section titled “M-Pesa Till Number”Enter your real M-Pesa Till Number, 5–12 digits, in M-Pesa Till Number. TillPoint prints it on unpaid bills so guests know where to pay.
If you leave it blank, waiters and cashiers cannot open unpaid bill PDFs. TillPoint never prints a placeholder number.
Select Save operations settings when you are done. The new settings apply to new orders; open orders are not changed.
Restaurant stock commitment
Section titled “Restaurant stock commitment”This controls when restaurant items permanently leave stock. The badge on the right shows which mode is active.
| Mode | When stock is removed |
|---|---|
| Order-time stock active | When the waiter presses Order. Two waiters cannot both sell the last remaining item. |
| Checkout-time stock active | When the bill is paid. This is the older behaviour and can oversell during busy service. |
To switch:
- Select Switch to order-time stock or Return to checkout-time stock.
- Read the explanation and tick the box to confirm you understand when stock will be removed.
- Select Confirm switch.
Each open order keeps the mode it started with. You cannot return to checkout-time stock while any order-time orders are still open; settle them first.
Terminals
Section titled “Terminals”Go to Settings → Terminals. Each card under Registers & terminals shows a terminal’s name, branch and register, its Auto-lock time, when it was Last seen, and its status:
- ACTIVE — in use on a device.
- OFFLINE · READY — prepared but not yet activated on any device.
Creating a terminal
Section titled “Creating a terminal”Create one terminal for each device that will be in use at the same time, such as a till, a counter screen, a kitchen screen or a waiter tablet.
- Select Create terminal at the top of the page.
- Enter a Terminal name, for example Terrace tablet.
- Choose the Register it belongs to.
- Choose Auto-lock after, from 30 seconds up to 60 minutes. The default is one minute.
- Select Create offline terminal.
The terminal shows OFFLINE · READY. To start using it, go to the device, sign in as an owner, admin or manager and select it. See Activating a shared terminal.
Editing a terminal
Section titled “Editing a terminal”Select Edit on the terminal’s card. You can change the Terminal name, the Register and Auto-lock after. Select Save changes.
Moving a terminal to a different register locks anyone currently using it.
Deleting a terminal
Section titled “Deleting a terminal”Delete a terminal when the device is lost, broken or no longer used.
- Select Delete on the terminal’s card.
- Enter the Reason for deletion, for example Device is no longer in use.
- Select Delete terminal, or Keep terminal to cancel.
The device is signed out and loses its saved access the next time it connects. Historical orders and audit records stay intact. A deleted terminal’s name stays reserved, so give a replacement a new name.
Printers
Section titled “Printers”Go to Settings → Printers. This is where you connect the thermal printers that print kitchen and bar tickets when a waiter sends an order.
Printing works through a print agent: a computer at your premises that is connected to the printers and runs the TillPoint print agent. Ask your technical support person to set up that computer and its printer queues before you start.
Tickets wait in a queue until an agent picks them up, so nothing is lost while a printer is not yet set up.
Adding a print agent
Section titled “Adding a print agent”- Under Print agents, enter a Device key, for example kitchen-host-01, and a Display name, for example Kitchen printer PC.
- Select Create agent.
- TillPoint shows a Device ID and Credential once only. Give them to the person setting up the print agent and store them safely, then select I saved it.
If the credential is lost, it cannot be shown again. Revoke the agent and create a new one.
Each agent shows its status and when it was last seen. Select Revoke to stop an agent from printing; its printer routes are switched off.
Sending each station to a printer
Section titled “Sending each station to a printer”- Under Station routes, choose the Station: KITCHEN or BAR.
- Choose the Agent that prints for that station.
- Enter the CUPS queue name on agent host. Your technical support person can give you the exact name, for example Kitchen_Thermal.
- Leave Enabled ticked.
- Select Save route.
Each route shows Connected when its agent is online, or Agent offline or route disabled. If a route is switched off, its tickets stay queued.
Send a test order for each station and check that the paper ticket comes out at the right printer before service.
When a ticket does not print
Section titled “When a ticket does not print”Delivery recovery lists tickets that need attention, with how many are queued and how many need review. A ticket can be:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| QUEUED | No agent has picked it up yet. |
| SPOOLED | The printer queue accepted it, but that does not prove paper came out. |
| FAILED | The ticket could not be sent to the printer. |
| AMBIGUOUS | TillPoint cannot tell whether it printed. It is never retried on its own. |
Before you act, go to the printer and look for the ticket.
- If the ticket did print, select Ticket confirmed. You can also use this for a queued ticket you printed another way.
- If it did not print, select Reprint. This is not offered for a queued ticket, because it has not been sent yet; check that the station’s route and agent are working instead.
Select Refresh to update the lists.
