Shifts and cash-up

Every sale and payment is recorded against the shift of the person who took it. You need your own open shift before you can sell, take orders or accept payment. Go to Shifts.

The page is called My shift. The badge at the top shows whether your shift is OPEN or CLOSED.

  1. Count the cash you are starting with in the drawer.
  2. Enter it in Opening float. Enter 0 if there is none.
  3. Select Open shift.

The card changes to Shift in progress and shows when it was opened and the opening float.

You can have only one open shift of your own on a register.

You cannot close your shift while you still have a current or held sale on Checkout. Complete or delete each one first.

Closing a shift means counting the cash drawer and every counter item, then signing off. Use Close & hand over.

If your branch has more than one stock section, first choose the Section to count.

Count the cash in the drawer and enter it in Counted cash. TillPoint shows the Expected drawer, worked out as:

opening float + cash sales − cash refunds + cash movements

Card-machine (PDQ) and M-Pesa totals are shown separately under Other confirmed tenders; they are not part of the drawer. Select Refresh tender totals if sales were made after you opened the page.

The difference between what you counted and what was expected is shown as Cash variance.

Under Closing stock count, count each item on the counter. The system quantity is hidden, so this is a true physical count.

For each item, enter:

  • Counted — how many you physically have, including damaged ones.
  • Damaged — how many of those are damaged. This cannot be more than the count.

TillPoint shows how many are sellable. Damaged units are recorded as wastage and removed from sellable stock. Every item must be counted before you can close.

If You must
The cash variance is not zero Enter a Cash variance reason.
A stock count differs from the system, or anything is damaged Enter a Stock discrepancy or damage reason.
The cash variance is more than KES 100, or there is any stock difference or damage Ask a manager to enter their PIN in Manager PIN for variance or stock adjustment, unless your role has shift-close approval.
  1. Tick I have counted the drawer and stock and sign off this shift.
  2. Select Close shift & post count.

Close shift & post count stays unavailable until everything above is complete.

If stock moved while you were counting, TillPoint refuses the count and clears the count fields. Count the items again against current stock and close again.

The card shows Shift signed off with the expected cash, counted cash and variance, and the cash, PDQ and M-Pesa totals for the shift.

To sell again, open a new shift.
